Screen Shot 2014-06-07 at 12.36.05 PMTammy Groves Thornton is an artist from Memphis, TN, with a burning love for acrylic, watercolor, and graphic art.  She grew up in North and Midtown Memphis.  She graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  She set out to change the world with her love and compassion and desire to help make the world a better place.  As a child she loved to paint and create. She loved the use of bright, vibrant colors as they electrified visually and drew you into the stories being told on canvas. Earlier in life, she was drawn to watercolor because of its fluidity and luminosity. Later, a love for bold, rich colors was awakened through the use of acrylics on canvas and it has been a burning love ever since, which is likely why her favorite artist is Romero Britto.  His cubist and neo-pop style is bright, colorful and happy. Tammy defines herself as a combination of expressionism and post impressionism, permeated with hints of abstract, to create her own style of art of colorful, joyful expressions.

Tammy thinks of her art as a catalyst of change; inspiring and uplifting the spirit and encouraging the heart to love.  Her work is comprised of bright colors creating feelings of joy and expressing her love of love. Her work reflects diversity and Screen Shot 2014-06-07 at 12.36.12 PMthe embracing of our diversities: race and ethnicity, culture, and social. Her work reflects the beauty in being a woman, embodying strength, confidence, independence, individuality, and love of self.  She hopes to inspire young people, especially girls, to see themselves as capable of doing and being anything they choose to be. Her paintbrush is her voice, her visual expression of her thoughts, feelings, and emotions.  Her purpose in life is to share her God-given artistry and creativity with the world.  She hopes to change the world one work at a time, one heart at a time, one moment at a time, making it a better place than she found it.

Tammy was recently commissioned to create artwork for The Purple Honey Concert Series and Record Label in Baltimore, MD, the Kichella Karoar clothing line in Waldorf, MD, and the T.Ross Love Foundation in Memphis, TN.
Works of art by Tammy proudly hang in private homes and public collections all over the United States, including the FedEx Family House in Memphis, TN and the AARP National Headquarters in Nashville, TN.
